@SW-User When this happened I asked myself, what the hell does Xenophobia mean?
Never heard of the word.
Had you heard of the word, at that time? 1996

@Gusman That seems odd, I can't remember a time when I didn't understand what xenophobia was. I certainly knew what it meant long before I left school (England, 1974). Perhaps this was because it was such a hot topic in the UK in the late 60s (race Relations Bill, Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood speech", etc.).
According to Merriam-Webster it was first used in print in The Daily News, London, 1880; https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/a-short-history-of-xenophobia

@ninalanyon For many years of my teenage/adult life the only thing I was interested in was getting drunk.
So a lot of what happened in the world passed me by in a blurry fog.
Never remember such a word or topic being taught in school in Tasmania in the late 60's/mid 70's
