Keweenaw Peninsula

The Keweenaw Peninsula is as far north in Michigan as you can go. While many tourists come here from all over the country, it is so remote that sometimes it can seem like we are not part of Michigan. The culture, economy, and some geography has more in common with Wisconsin than with Lower Michigan. It is an old copper mining region here. You can visit many of the old early 19th century mine sites, which I have done all my life, and they never get boring. There is always something new to discover. What a wonderful place.

Looked it up. Marvelous scenery. That's also a cool name. Keweenaw. I wonder about its origin.

Central Mine in Keweenaw County in 1933. Sometimes the treasure is buried thousands of feet below ground.
