I understand that advances in space science are the only way our species survives past the next 1000 years, truly I do. But look...

...there is an even more crucially critical area we need to advance in before anything else is even worth looking at, and that area is the science of human harmony.

We waste so much resource on conflict and greed; if we cannot learn how to live together and be productive without persecution, rampant consumerism turning people into commodities, and without dominance hierarchies, our species is going to die on this rock sometime relatively soon after the year 3000.

If we don't drop everything and focus on human harmony all the scientific advancements we have made up to this point, and will make in the future up until the end, will have meant absolutely nothing because there will be no one left to advance any further or to even remember what we did achieve.

It will be as if we never existed at all.

There are eastern philosophies about harmony and contentment. I am trying to go back to that.

But on a global scale, I don't think it is achievable at this point. By the time things get bad, people will be eventually forced to give up things they've long considered necessities. And they will get violent in response. Some things will happen gradually and others will be drastic like the pandemic.

The only people truly able to make changes that matter are those in charge. But they don't think long term and they have no reason to.

I already know the answer, large populations can not coexist. The more people that exist, the less dependent each member is on the other. The ideal population of human beings is just around 150 individuals. That is large enough for advancement but small enough for cohesion.

@Jackaloftheazuresand that isn't enough for a stable breeding population though. They would have to keep fetuses frozen and have genetic information on file...

@Eternity yes it is. The key to all this if you want to avoid chance extinction is that you grow and once you hit somewhere around 300 you send that half packing to somewhere else but any population can be utterly destroyed by some event so it's not that much of a concern.

Why won’t we surpass 1000 years?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Eternity like I said. Humanity has survived those for 1000’s of years and our population grows on the planet
Eternity · 26-30, M
@MrBrownstone but they didn't though...2 of those things are brand new...as in no one behind the year 1900 ever had to worry about them at any point...

@Eternity sure did
