I used to be generous, but too many people take kindness for weakness and try to take advantage, now trust has to be earned first.

I’ve always been generous and kind . For example ..I give things away to people who can use them, even though I know I can sell them 😊.

Good for you ,we should all pay it forward when we can 👍@cherokeepatti

@SW-User That was the way I was raised. And the little church we went to if they found out someone had a house fire they would take up a separate donation for that family, probably got more in donations to the family than they did for the church, the church expenses weren’t that much because nobody got paid to preach and members helped with the maintenance.

It was easier for me when I was younger but noticed a pattern of people or groups being deceptive about their needs and put a stop to that. If I figure that someone has a real need I can be very generous. I just have to know them and their situation. Seems like I am a magnet in the parking lots of Walmart when people will come to me (no one else around and it’s always when I’m leaving not when I am getting out of my car) for people to give me a hard luck story to ask for money. Like saying they are hungry when I know there’s a meal place at a shelter that anyone regardless of income can walk into and get free meals, snacks and even bottled water to take with them.

@cherokeepatti Same here... people waiting until you get to your car to ask for money.

@SW-User I believe that the businesses and the police have cracked down on the panhandlers in my city. Noticed signs up all around the outdoor patio at Braum’s where they were hanging out and hassling customers. Also they’d sit right in front of the restaurant in their cars doped up, saw a car full one day in the hot summer time. Now there are signs saying parking is for customers only. There are several shelters and food kitchens for them here and if they ask for money it’ll go to pay for drugs, alcohol or cigarettes and I’m not buying those for anyone.

I tend to generous to those who deserve it in my estimation . In the corners of out winter wheat fields we always plant turnips . The old timers really like those and anyone can stop by and get what they want . I never complain when we have water melons planted . In this covid time we take people that live alone or need food stuff all the time .

@SW-User my adoptive parents did that . They told me about the depression and how people suffered and that $10 worth of seed could save lives . No one should ever go hungry … ever !
SW-User
@TexChik I agree with that and see you have some great adoptive parents. What's in a heart many times comes through in daily life.

@SW-User they were angels . I only had them 11 years before they passed . They said I made them young again

Used to always come easy for me but it does get hard at times when people want to mooch!

@SW-User I use to be generous to a fault. I found not everyone will appreciate the things I do or even acknowledge it. Others have made me feel less generous in my heart and I wish to change that to how it use to be.

It's something that comes easy and naturally as we all want to be generous. But we start to be cautious when we don't get due recognition or our generosity is abused or misused...

I have started exercising caution after a few bitter experiences ..

these days, you have to know someone before you can be generous; way too many strangers/con-artists out there that just take advantage
PhaqueYou · M
If you gotta work at it then you may be doing it for self gain.
SW-User
@PhaqueYou Maybe...or maybe it's just hard getting back what has been lost due to circumstances and all... some people can make it hard to do what was once an easy thing.
PhaqueYou · M
@SW-User yes.. like I said.

When giving there are situations to that action.

Such as loss which you articulated.

I was raised to be generous, and my faith teaches it, so it isn't hard for me.
SW-User
It comes naturally and being generous makes me feel good.
It's harder now than it was, but i am still fairly generous.
Kumbayakid · 61-69, M
Actually i think people become more generous as they get older
I believe generosity is innate and always present. It becomes obscured by spiritual injuries resulting in anger, resentments, fears. And, may remain obscured until the pain and negativities are resolved. But it's always there, naturally hard-wired, as part of our human package.
