convertible or not?

is buying a convertible good idea in a cold climate like London?.. Cuz it has disadvantages like wind noise and poor insulation when the roof is down, which will be 99% of the time

I have owned a BMW M3 convertible for years.It is warm in winter and awesome with the hood down in summer.Convertibles are best kept in garages.

@tallpowerhouseblonde I think they are hard top right?
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@Londonn Mine is a soft top.A newer model is a hard top.

I rented a BMW 438i for two weeks a few years ago. Surprisingly little wind noise even with the top down and you can reduce it even further by putting some windows up.

The only problem was that with the top down there really wasn't much space in the boot.

It was one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven. But not exactly economical :-)

Edit: Forgot to say that this was in the UK and we drove from Dorset to Northumberland and back with lots of places in between.

@ninalanyon hard tops are way better it seems, thanks

@Londonn Much easier to work! You can put it up or down in less than a minute without leaving your seat. Even when moving at low speed. I'd love to have a convertible but for me it would have to be a second car because I use my car to sleep in on road trips.

@ninalanyon makes sense.. I started thinking to get a svu honestly, while these are amazing toys, they are not practical

You can buy them with hard roofs that fold up
Londonn · 36-40, M
@meJess yeah there are couple like that, I'm interested in them as well, thanks.

@Londonn The BMW 438i I rented had a hard roof that folds at the press of a button.

I had a 206cc but sold it earlier in the year. Hardly ever drove it with the top down
Londonn · 36-40, M
@olibird yeah.. that's what I'm concerned.. having a cabrio in london but hardly ever using it. thanks for this. so how was it? was it always cold inside and never warm up due to poor insulation?
olibird · 26-30, F
@Londonn the cc has metal roof so was ok for warmth. I just never went topless 😉
Londonn · 36-40, M
@olibird that's nice hah

@Londonn not important.

Old enough to understand one must have a mind to change. People are set & nothing anyone or a giant asteroid racing towards earth inhabited by space sharknadoes can do otherwise.
Londonn · 36-40, M
@PhaqueYou argh dude 🤣 will you just read the fcking post? instead of cutting right into it and act like there are actually sides in this thing! I'm just trying to make a decision by asking people about their experiences.
ninalanyon · 70-79, TVIP
@Londonn
Convertible is good for city cruising only
Not so, the 438i that I rented had very little wind in the front seats with the top down, especially if you put the windows up, even at 110 km/h. Different story in the back seats though.
