Police car lights are red and blue because of the way the wavelengths of light work. Blue is direct and sharp. Red because of its amplitude can get around particles like fog or smoke. So in good weather or bad, one of those wavelengths will get your attention. Firetruck have red lights of course because they have to pierce the smoke.
