@SW-User @SW-User @stratosranger @BlueVeins The lesson is "lifetime packages" are always a sucker deal.

@BlueVeins What does anti-trust laws have anything to do with it?

@MethDozer true that, they are

@MethDozer Preventing businesses from strangling the competition through intermediaries. In this case, what's likely going on is that porn studios are influencing payment firms into choking out one of their competitors, but it's hard to tell because those companies haven't really spoken on the subject. Even if it's not though, there should probably be protections against this kind of corporate tyranny; nobody appointed them to be the gatekeepers of the Internet.

@BlueVeins That isn't what os the issue at all. They are voluntarily doing it because they got busted for hosting illegal content and were found to have policies that encouraged and went easy on it. They are doing it as a form of damage control and because they don't want to have to police their site properly.. The big porn hosting sites were actually benefitting from only fans because it all inevitably ended up being reposted on their sites and generated free content for them. Same reason pornhub chose to remove non-verified content and downloads on their site when they got exposed for not doing enough to keep illegal content from user uploads on their site. They have all just decided that it is too expensive and requires too much effort to allow it if they have to take steps to keep it kosher.

It isn't a case of corporate tyranny, it is a case of corporate laziness and disregard being exposed and not wanting to fix it.

@MethDozer That's not what happened. In both cases, payment processors coerced the corporations into making the reforms they made, as was reported publicly by both companies. You could make a reasonable case that the payment companies were acting in good faith in the case of PornHub since the move in question was simply a safety improvement. That would still leave the obvious question of why other social media companies aren't held to the same standard, but whatever, maybe it was a strategic thing.

As for OnlyFans... no, absolutely not. It's true that their content policing standards were too lax on illegal content, but if that was the concern, the payment companies would've instead demanded that they change their content policies (which they haven't done, to my knowledge). Instead, they enacted a flagrant assault on independent art by forcing one of the very few media for independent pornography to effectively close shop. The whole illegal content thing was merely pretext.

@BlueVeins I
Yeah, because those payment providers can be held responsible for being payment intermediaries for illegal content. What I said it was is exactly what it is. The payment companies didn't care that they stop hosting porn, they cared they stop hosting content they could have legal consequences from. Only fans chose to stop hosting all pornographic content because it is easier and cheaper for them. Onlyfans isnt a victim here dude. Only fans chose to close shop because a few payment companies found it dangerous to do business with them and instead of enforcing better policies they gave up.

@BlueVeins Doubt me? Look at what Kimchi just posted.

Boom!

@MethDozer A'ight, that's a really good point. Nevermind, never knew payment companies could be held liable for illegal shit going under the radar.
