If you'd like to post on Similar Worlds, without bothering to place your post in an appropriate section,
or, if you simply don't know how you should categorize your post,

Did you know... ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿค”
there is a "Random" Post Type โ“ ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

as well as the Groups: "Miscellaneous" & "Random" ๐ŸŽฒ ?

(however, correctly placing your post helps other users to find content they might be interested in)

Post Type: Random (Miscellaneous, Uncategorized, Random)

Section: Fun & Games > Miscellaneous

Section: Fun & Games > Random

Please note that Intentional Spamming/Miscategorization of posts, is against the TOS,
and is disrespectful to the rest of the SW community, who may have interest in seeing relevant content in the groups they are subscribed to.

All users, kindly be considerate to others.

Affecting other user's usage and enjoyment of this site, by intentionally making off-topic posts in the Groups others are utilizing, isn't the right thing to do.

You can easily post on SW at any time you want, by simply using the already provided
[ Miscellaneous / Uncategorized / Random ] labeling,
IF you don't wish to correctly categorize your post.

Thanks ๐Ÿ‘
Kind Regards!

I had a thought about this yesterday.

You know how EP was designed with people with social and related disabilities in mind....well this occurred to me :

If someone has a physical mobility issue with their motor skills , say, cerebral palsy ....all these steps to post now make it hard for them .

I respect your intent to help us define a posts intent, but does this process follow the original concept of this sites whole reason for being created in the first place ?

I understand that most users are able bodied, but please don't forget the ethos of what makes this place great.

This isn't a complaint , just a mental meandering.

Just remember this place was for those that have no physical place to be social....don't pander to the wants of the majority, remember the needs of the minority it was made for.

@OogieBoogie I agree with keeping accessibility for everyone in mind. In fact I've become quite the activist for that in the past year and half.

But the timing of this request strikes me as a bit weird. (That's not only directed at you. Far from even. I've seen this complaint a lot during the last few days.)

- Does the lack of choice now limit creativity? Yes.
- Did the introduction of moods a few months ago make posting more cumbersome? Yes.
- Were complaints about accessibility justified then? Yes.
- Are these still relevant and justified now? Yes.

But did posting become more difficult this weekend? No. If anything, not being offered tens of very similar locations to post, together with some that contained a relevant keyword but hardly made sense, made it easier.

I'm glad the downsides of earlier updates are still on the radar, even if they had more positive effects than negative ones, but pointing out flaws in earlier updates to reject recent ones that didn't increase the negative effects of those feels a bit strange.

(And I can't stress this enough: this is a general feeling regarding the entire community, not you personally.)
@OogieBoogie well argued ... and the point you make is very interesting ... and in reflection I think is quite valid!

@NerdyPotato oh no , I don't feel insulted.

You wrote objectively and I appreciate that ๐Ÿ˜Š

And my pointing out previous changes only comes because of slow thinking and an epiphany ๐Ÿ˜…

I can understand why they developed tje moods thing...but sometimes reality doesn't match ideology.
Its like emojis, some have been used for totally different meanings than they were intended .

The moods and groups are used diligently by some, but then hijacked or disregarded by others.

I don't envy admin and the developers , improving this site , dealing with complaints and trying to make it all stick together must be an insurmountable task!

I just can't forget that its a privilege to be here , that this site has so much freedom to it compared to others...I just don't want it to become difficult to use for those who need it most.

@NerdyPotato From a user interface perspective it did get more difficult with this update. Prior to the update while most of the same information was still required (exception being the change from groups to topics), it was all on the same visual page.

This new update requires you do select everything in a very specific order, and if you want to change the mood after you've started writing your post it is now hidden behind additional button clicks.

I guess one could argue both ways on the new topics. In the previous state in some cases you were more likely to find a match when searching for keyword as there were more hits on the search before, but if you were unsure of what you wanted it in you didn't have a topic list to select from. Now there is a higher likelihood a keyword doesn't exist and you have to hunt through the topics interface for it.

@questionWeaver thankyou.

Being here sometimes reminds me of how privileged I am .

And I've tried other social sites....and none have the "feel" of here.

But.....its losing it.

We are losing our sense of community....and yes, I know the influx of users because of covid has been part of that.
They bring their culture with them.

And I fully support admin in being decisive , of reminding users how important 'groups' are.
How else can we look up stories and experiences that we are interested in.

I know this moment in time is a transition....not everything happens instantly. Yes, I have lost the ability to post where I want ....but its just for now.

Oh geez...I'm ranting, I'm sorry .

I suppose its the confusion of posting right now that has made me think of those who will find this even harder .
I've seen the 10...20 minutes of concentration needed to make one hand movement in others.

I just hope this place retains its original directive.

@PirateMonkeyCabinet YES!!!!

valid point !

This has happened to me .

And if there is nothing specific to my choice , I can get lost in choosing what is appropriate.
