My life became so much easier when I learned not to make other people's problems my problems

You can help if you want, and it's good to help people who need it, but let it stop there. The moment you allow yourself to consistently be put at an inconvenience for other people's benefit, they won't stop- they'll keep taking your time and resources until you have nothing left to give. Never make people's problems your own.

Good advice

@SW-User thanks! Took me a while to figure this out. If you don't want to do something, don't feel guilty about saying no. The people you're saying no to would respect your choice, and probably wouldn't hesitate to say no if the shoe was on their foot. And if they do react badly, then they were never worth helping in the first place.

This is very good advice! Glad you learned it young enough.
