Parents offended we wanted to celebrate Father’s Day with our kids (and husband)

Guys, I have family who think that they are entitled to having Father’s Day and Mother’s Day celebrating it spending with them. And it’s not like a 1-2 hour situation it’s come over and spend all day at the their (my parents) house. My husband and I have a child and in 2 weeks will have another. I’m on bed rest currently, cervical issue and high blood pressure. And my mom and dad had the nerve to guilt me and say that we basically don’t give them enough because we aren’t there spending time with them on Father’s Day .. a card isn’t enough, a phone call or expensive gifts. No they want us there at an all day cookout and swim with our kids. My husbands family doesn’t act this way.. and I’m just baffled that my parents (who are never there when we need them) would be so not understanding that we might want to spend these holidays with our own kids, privately celebrating my husband who is there 24/7 for us, and deserves to celebrate this day without an obligated trip to the in laws ALL DAY.. anyone else’s family have to set boundaries like this? And get flack for it?

My mother was a little like this but not to the extreme that your family is doing. I hope you can get good input here from other members

@Nayla thank you for this!

No, but don't let them bully you or it'll never end - maybe a good time to change an old family dynamic.
