@Yulianna Irish, originally, but it's been extensively covered by American musicians since we have a very large Irish immigrant population.

@BlueMetalChick the Irish and Ukrainians are the book ends of europe... our countries have many simularities, including strong folk culture, and a worldwide diaspora.

@DropTopDig I think the Grateful Dead version is the best, closely followed by Thin Lizzy.

@Yulianna It's funny cos my city has huge populations of both. Irish, Ukrainian, Polish, and Italian are our four biggest groups. Also lots of Jews, Chinese, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans, but not quite as big as the others.
