I have never perceived a feeling of loneliness when I was alone in a forest; but I felt lonesome and forlorn when I was alone in a big city. Lonesome, within a crowd of 10,000 people. Not sure whether that's relevant, regarding your question.
@helenS Absolutely relevant and true for me as well. I prefer small towns and have for many decades, I actually seek them out for the reason you stated.
