What I Really Want to Say

Thanks to @SoapOperaGlasses for the title. The other one I'm proudest of, and have been looking for a way to express this for some time now...

Oh, friend of mine, through thick and thin
Through brightest and my darkest days.
I wish that I could tell you now
What I really want to say.

It seems unfair that you don't know
The truth when I feel gray.
But I cannot seem to find the words
of what I really want to say.

But if you were to take it bad
my soul would fade away.
it's not something you'd understand
what I really want to say.

So I hide from you that simple thing
and do my best to downplay
The parts of me that make up
what I really want to say.

Someday I hope to let it out
for now, i must delay
telling you the truth of me
what I really want to say
