...that when you message someone, you just get to the point? Let's just assume "Hi" has already been said and "how are you" is assumed to be 'just peachy'. Small talk is obnoxious enough in person

THANK YOU!!! It needed to be said! Even if you have talked to the person in the past get to the point. Recently had someone say "Hey you there need to ask you something". I happened to not be online and got chewed a new one for not answering. When I got back on I was so annoyed I just ignored which led to more *** chewing. Oh well, buh bye.

@curiosi Yeah, first time message or most recent in a long string, 'hi' and the like need to go away as single messages. "Hi, so guess what happened to me today. I tripped on a invisible spectral ghost turtle and fell on my butt...blah blah blah." This works.
No need to separate it into separate messages.
