Is it just me, or does popular science fiction not go as fanciful as it used to?

It seems like big tech imaginings are either not as impressive or of they are impressive they are shoved ludicrously far into the future. Where is the ambition? Is this because we don't have flying cars yet?
I think many have tried to hold closer to realities. the projections of things we'd have in 2000 from 1950 were all done based on looking backwards at the huge leaps made since 1900, without any regard to unintended consequences or even the natural hill/plateau models that dominate learning and technological advancements.
