What did you expect parenting to be like?

I see a lot of posts and comments from people saying they didn't anticipate what parenthood would be like and were blindsided by the reality. Typically it's things like "I didn't expect to be so sleep-deprived", "I didn't expect my baby to need such constant attention", etc.

That hasn't been my experience at all. Motherhood has (so far) entailed pretty much what I thought it would, and I don't feel in any way misled.

So I'm curious. What did you expect parenthood to be like? What did a typical day / night look like in your imagination? And if you feel like you were fed a false narrative about parenthood (maybe especially motherhood?), where do you think that's coming from? Your own parents? Parents in your peer group? Pop culture? Social media?
