Education and healthcare should be free, it benefits society.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@CantExplain that’s where it’s heading already under this system
Gleen · 22-25, M
@CantExplain It’s common knowledge that free education boosts the economy, not hinders it, and universal healthcare is cheaper than single payer, paying higher taxes is a better alternative than paying crooked insurance companies, who often are the reason why healthcare is more expensive.

@Gleen People will always be able to make counterarguments because no system is perfect. But certain counterarguments are no good, like, "Oh, it will cost the government X amount of money." What matters is what it costs the TAXPAYERS. The taxpayers will pay for healthcare, whether they pay that money to the government or to private insurance companies and hospitals, etc. What matters is how much money the taxpayers have to pay. People need to understand that and have the debate within those bounds. Remember, the government's money comes from the taxpayers, a point that these people seem to remember quite well in other scenarios.

The interesting thing is student debt is voluntary and planned unless one simply ignores the reality. Medical debt is not quite same though you could say “why didn’t you but more insurance?” Still...

@DownTheStreet yes essentially.

@NoahB I’m not a fan of nationalized medicine but I think having a universal fund for catastrophic injury and disease might be wise. Like the individual is responsible to a point. Either way the tax payer funds it; granted a large % of population pays no federal tax

@DownTheStreet sounds a bit like over complicating it to me but it’s better than nothing I suppose

How about responsibility
NoahB · 26-30, M
@MarineBob yes, how about responsibility? How about our responsibility to take care of each other because we live in a society?
