At what point do you just stop making the effort to be polite to jerks and idiots?

When they start just using personal abuse with no substantive come back I know it's time to leave a conversation.

Oh, I usually continue being polite even after they have insulted me and become abusive, and I nicely tell them that I don't want to converse with someone who is abusive. Then if they continue being abusive I will refuse to respond. And if the abuse continues I will block them and anyone who harasses me on their behalf.

I'm too old to play with stupids. I'm polite but deep inside...I bury them 7 feet under while being classy

Why worry, just ignore. 🤷‍♂️
