Whose statue shall we pull down today

There's so many people from the past who took advantage of the dark old days of our past maybe we should look at them under the spotlight like for example Lord Merthyr William Thomas Lewis
Lord Merthyr owned the Senghenydd colliery where 439 men were killed in a terrible explosion in 1913 safety regulations weren't enforced in this colliery resulting in more deaths than if it was enforced.

All of them go, whether hero or foe. We'll be like Mao and erect plain ugly buildings while ruining traditional Chinese architecture.

But low key, I actually think the statue should stay. It's different than Confederacy. The statue reminds us of corruption and should reminds us that more than 400 people died because someone chose the short way instead of the long. I think it's an important lesson to always remember, just like how the concentration camps should remain open, to remind us of how not to treat people.

On the other ✋, Confederacy statues were put there by kkk groups with specific intent to intimate minorites and not necessarily by local Govt like this statue probably was.

@SatanBurger You have a point although I don't live too far away from Lord Merthyr's statue in Aberdare Park and I think it should go.

@senghenydd I guess, it's probably there to honor the guy and can see your point. If it wasn't a statue honoring him, I'd say keep it but there's a point if it's specifically to honor him.

@SatanBurger In Caerphilly we have a statue of a person who was born in the Town of Caerphilly and moved away when he was four years old a famous "Clown" many of us would like the clown removed it gives Caerphilly a silly status.

I'm not defending him...or Columbus or anyone (it's a futile argument)...but when Isis destroyed statues it was cultural barbarism....now this. Does removing a statue negate the act? Do people come and lay flowers in front of it or worship this guy? Most of these have simply become glorified garden ornaments at this point. If it's that offensive - take the high road - educate people, and lawfully advocate for it's removal or for a replacement that would honor those killed as a tribute to them if in fact he's responsible. I just worry about this "knee-jerk" reaction to removing things....Be well friend.

@luctoretemergo Pretty much, I'm devastated that IS managed to destroy a lot of statues that we'll never get back.

@luctoretemergo Hand on my heart the statue of Lord Merthyr should go it's hidden away in Aberdare Park it wouldn't of survived in one of the main streets of Cardiff Swansea or Newport I will take up this case for it's removal.

I sincerely hope that you and your communist ilk go to prison for an extended stay. What you advocate is no different than what ISIS did in the MIddle East.
senghenydd · M
@Mathis1 All I am discussing is statues I lost ancestors in the Senghenydd Colliery explosion in 1913 that's all just making a point.
Robert byrds still stands..

Just saying..
*eyes BLM suspiciously*

You’d think it would be first on the list
@senghenydd it’s not a conspiracy .. it’s open source info.. he gets a free pass. Because he’s a democrat and he apologised later in life when public opinion swayed.. but anywho..

We’ve torn down statues of ppl who free’d slaves.. just thought it strange this guy still stands..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Ok along with Lord Merthyr he's on the list
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Ohh haha I remember that, they did tear a statue down who freed the slaves, what dumbasses hahaha.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I agree that safety is something that should have been used.
senghenydd · M
@MrBrownstone Safety first poor safety costs lives in the case of the Senghenydd Colliery many lives - Lives Matter
