My dad told me if someone has an accent they normally speak at least one more language than you.

Too many people mix up learning a new language with being stupid. Which is... well stupid.

@LAlexV I suppose I’ve just not encountered them. I’ve never heard anyone say that. Many people I know with accents are polyglots who speak several languages and have extensive vocabularies in all of them.

That is true. It reminds me of when I was speaking to an Indian man and he kept apologising for his 'bad English' just because of his accent, when his vocabulary was superior to many native English speakers.
