After someone dies and they still had a house and assets, what’s the very next step after the funeral?

I am an executor - so is a sister. What’s do I do next. Seriously have no idea.

Get in touch with an estate lawyer and let the lawyer do the heavy lifting. You likely will need one anyways since probating a will over a certain dollar amount requires it.

@DoubleRings There are legal requirements that might trip you up as you try to probate the will. It very much depends on the situation. I probated my father in law's will which was very simple. He had everything joint with his wife and so everything simply went to her. My mother left everything to her children and it took two years to sort it all out with the services of a good lawyer. It was a very simple will but because it was over the base line of value we had to involve a lawyer. No one contested the will so.... Now we are doing the same with my mother in law's estate. Her financial assets don't present a challenge but she owned real estate and wanted that to be divided up disproportionately.
