@JoeMW It's not so bad. It will take time to get used to it.

@helenS I don't know if i can trust music that requires a quarter of music theory to convince me it's good
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@helenS I think I could come up with some catchy riffs ;)

@JoeMW It's a different mindset. There is in fact music that you can only enjoy after some serious training.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NewKidInTown I would love to listen.

@helenS Only if I’m allowed to do my interpretative dance that accompanies it

@helenS I enjoy a lot of "difficult" music but Schoenberg and co. ... does nothing for me

@JoeMW Atonal and twelve-tone music had to happen because late romanticism was stuck in a cul-de-sac, with ever-growing harmonic complexity. Listen to early (pre-atonal) Schoenberg and you know what I mean.

@JoeMW That and jazz 😎

@NewKidInTown Jazz is great I was just about to @helenS that jazz is the true heir to post-romanticist music. :)

I think it was Mark Twain who said "Wagner's music is better than it sounds" I'll grant that to Schoenberg ;-)

@JoeMW all I know is when Jazz is playing in the background, at some point I’ll look up to find the source of the annoying sounds, and it will ultimately be jazz
