The education system in the U.S. is a complete joke.

Just saying.

it amazes me how the American school system is so pathetic when their universities are the best in the world

@SW-User While they have a few that are top tier, I wouldn't say that they're the best in the world in every field. As an example, sweden from what I've heard probably has the best medical school in europe.

rankings and loan systems aside, I’ve heard it from people belonging to multiple countries that their best college experiences and post degree opportunities were in America

@Pocky I grew up w them but ok, a person like you would find reasons to blame the outside world irrespective of where you’re living

@SW-User I don't know about that, I mean every school system in every country in this world has its pros and cons. Here for instance stuff tends to be overly theoretical (de facto making easy stuff difficult through the pointless), and some courses outdated in my experience, but at least we don't have to sell a kidney to pay tuition fees; with my yearly quota in the U.S. you buy probably a textbook, for saying.

And judging by the experiences of people I know with finding employment abroad, competing against candidates from potentially the rest of Europe or even the world as a whole, I wouldn't say the preparation of the average graduate (especially from schools of Engineering) is inferior to any other country in particular.

@Elessar yeah of course it comes down to the student more than the country, but I’ve seen it myself that people who studied in the USA make the most money today, of course for PhDs etc the continent/country doesn’t matter much eventually

@SW-User even working outside of the USA?

@SW-User I fear that has more to do with the job market of the respective countries than uni preparation itself. I mean, here you can have even a PhD and chances are you'll earn less than a waiter (with no offense to waiters) in Germany. The best offer a friend of mine with a chem engineering MSc. could find was €900/mo after-tax. He's moving to London, and like him, many others do the same.

I know (indirectly) other Italians who graduated here and work in the U.S. and don't earn less than Americans.

@SW-User It is about the priorities that a nation wants for it's citizens. Those priorities are determined by the voters.
