If you could choose your child's/children's profession, what would it be?

Of course they're free to choose themselves, I'm asking what you would choose for them.
Don't answer if you gonna pull that "Whatever makes them happy" cliche.

@HoraceGreenley Is that a profession?
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
Something useful for me obviously 😅 maybe something interesting scientifically so they could educate me, like chemist, engineer, researcher... Or language teacher/translator. Maybe something practical that I could get things and services for free from them, like carpenter or gymnast to help me get in shape 😂
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@RedwoodBarman what does that mean?
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut Nothing intentionally offensive, I promise. I think it's clever. A profession that's well paid, in demand, enjoyable, and beneficial to you. It's clever.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@RedwoodBarman yes, that's it pretty much. Something good enough for both my children and myself, if I can choose.

@SW-User cool!

I’d prefer not to. My parents didn’t choose my career, I did. They weren’t even aware of whatever I was doing. I’d like to figure out their potential and ask them to try different things, but I’d never force a career on them.

@SW-User There's also moving on. If you can't follow such simple guidelines I question your ability to do anything.

@SW-User I admit I didn't handle that as maturely as I could, but I don't seek validation from strangers who can't even abide by one simple request. If anything, I was seeking opinions on my behavior for the sake of bettering myself.

I'm curious, though. Since you being up validation. What did you think you'd gain by explicitly defying the one request I made for commenters on this post? What was your intention of refusing to follow one simple request? You could've moved on more easily than going through all this, right? Or did you feel compelled to go out of your way and intentionally ignore literally the one rule nearly everyone else has managed to follow while still making their opinion heard in an attempt to convince yourself you're a better person for it?

But one simply can’t choose for them. All a good parent can do is give them roots, foundation and stability for them to comfortably grow in the direction they will eventually have the final say in. So as cliche as it sounds it’s true .... whatever makes them happy. 😌

@SW-User This may come as a surprise, but this is why I put "If you could" in the question. Either comment right or don't comment. It's not a hard concept to understand.

I'm a brine taster over at the pickle factory but if I had a kid I would encourage it to be an olive stuffer.
