The coronavirus is highly contagious and can be spread while asymptomatic. So while you feel fine and “healthy,” you can be infecting others @cherokeepatti

@AbbySvenz The flu is also highly contagious. We’ve had flu seasons where a lot of people died but nobody mandated everyone to wear a mask. My friend died from it almost 6 years ago.

Also: Seasonal flu is not the same thing as a pandemic flu. Seasonal flu is nowhere near as contagious or fatal as the coronavirus. Still, in both cases, the same precautions would greatly reduce the spread.

@cherokeepatti the flu is a very real thing and claims the lives of lots of people. A bad season can claim disturbingly high numbers of people in the US alone, let alone the world.

If anything, this covid stuff should prompt everyone to take viruses more seriously, as opposed to walking through life blinded by anti mask hysteria.

@cherokeepatti a 'cold virus' is a slightly misleading way of putting it. This variety of covid is many times more lethal than the one that causes the cold.

At any rate, it is accurate to say that society as a whole dismissed the flu as whatever. In fact, there's a new type of flu that has pandemic potential.
