Grief.
There is no pain like the pain of loss; specifically, the pain of losing someone that you loved with all your heart and soul.
Someone that was an integral part of your life for a long time.
To watch them die and be unable to do anything about it and then to have them gone is just profoundly distressing. It changes a person.
Part of you dies too.

Mine was being told I have cancer and to go home and get my affairs in order that I probably only had a few months at best to live. That was 16 years ago. That dr was very wrong, glad I decided to get a second opinion from a better dr

Despair
Emotional numbness... to be alive and breathing - yet incapable of feeling anything at all.

Extreme depression leading to suicidal thoughts.
As per what most have written. Grief over the unexpected death of someone who died too young.

All of them are equally so bad that I can't pick one, but probably death of a child. That feeling of LOSS , you never recover from and never overcome.
