What do you think is the most thankless and least necessary job?

A job where no one acknowledges you as a human being and if said job were to disappear no one would notice.
Madhatter · 31-35, M
Bus driver. Person who stocks the shelves of stores at night. Both jobs can easily be replaced by robots, and in all likelihood will be replaced by robots in the next 10 to 20 years. No one will notice, no one will care. Just off of the top of my head.
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@Madhatter Ah, but the job is still there. I'm not asking about robotic replacement. If the bus drivers vanished, there'dbe panic. If no one stocked the shelves, there'd be chaos.

These jobs are necessary.

@RedwoodBarman Is it still a job if a person isn't doing it? Keeping an accurate time was once a job, before clocks. I don't think there's any current job that could vanish along with its function. If there were, it would have happened already. It only exists if it holds a purpose.

@Madhatter You make a good point. I have no counter argument without sounding like an asshole. Well played, sir.

Most jobs are thankless
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@HannahSky This is true. But nearly all of them are necessary.
HannahSky · F
@RedwoodBarman most of them
CestManan · 46-50, F
Least necessary - Probably about 1/2 the positions in upper management in any corporation. They don't do anything except figure out ways to make the peons' lives more miserable.

Most thankless - being a peon.
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@CestManan Two separate jobs. And upper management is meant to better manage a larger number of employees. You can't expect over fit to manage all Walmarts in a single state, right?
CestManan · 46-50, F
@RedwoodBarman I work in a "big box", not walmart, and I know before this corona thing, upper management would often schedule visits. Like ain't they got jack crap better to do than to come and breathe down our necks?
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@CestManan I don't know about you, but I'd regularly check on my business(es) to ensure my livelihood and avoid legal ramifications that could lead to bankruptcy and utter failure.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
Bathroom attendant
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@Zeuro A truly useless and thankless job. Well done.
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@PrivateHell But how'd you know they worked?
@RedwoodBarman if they stink, they fail
RedwoodBarman · 31-35, M
@PrivateHell Loss in profit. Lowered reputation. Lost customer base. Failed business. Necessary job.
