Why is it?

Why can you announce there is a virus infecting a city that can kill you and you should avoid contact with people as much as possible because anyone you meet may very well be a carrier. People will ignore it for the most part and go on like it is an average day.
But you put ONE sniper on ONE building with ONE bullet and he will clear the streets for the most part.
Curious as to what kind of answers I will get to this.

Because it’s exaggerated by the media. Every health expert points that out every single day

@Bagalamaga You mean the stats are exaggerated, Covid19?
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@Coralmist the death rate you mean? 2-3%. Not 70-80% like the plague
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Bagalamaga Which plague, bubonic?
@Bagalamaga The 2%-3% mortality rate is 20-30 times higher than influenza.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@Coralmist the Black Plague,Cholera,etc..those are serious problems. The recovery rate is very high on this one. The media is cashing in. Im not saying it’s nothing but people act like it’s as deadly as aids

@quitwhendone So we have to act like it’s the armageddon?
@Bagalamaga No. But it's smart to plan to mitigate its transmission. It's smart to be concerned and cautious.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone did you notice that all the media outlets are only highlighting the negative? 3000 more deaths today..15000 new cases today. None of them starts with 5000 people recovered successfully today..🤔 why is that? Fear pays
@Bagalamaga You have totally missed the point. It's a dangerous pandemic. The media isn't saying that. Epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, physicians and other public health officials worldwide are saying that. The media is reporting facts. Including what our fed, state and local governments are doing.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone the media does as always. Highlights one side, hides the other. Don’t base your judgement on what the media tells you. On any topic
@Bagalamaga I don't. I formed my thinking on this issue by what public health officials say.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone through the media you mean..they shoot a 15 minute interview,30 second will make it to the mainstream. They have the right to cut it and present it to the public as they see fit after the interview is done. All im saying that this hoarding panic is ridiculous and it’s the media’s doing
@Bagalamaga I watch the full press conferences. If I miss them, I catch them on YouTube or my local channel's website or app.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone good for you man..try not to take them too seriously. This is not as serious as you think. When shit really hits the fan, grab some guns. Not toilet paper
@Bagalamaga I believe in science, not guns, toilet paper and media.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone I believe in science too but coronaviruses are not curable. It’s the immune system that adapts to them. Guns are bad but as Bill Burr said: in the case of martial law, you’re just hoarding supplies for the strongest guy on the block
@Bagalamaga You really and truly don't understand medicine and public health. Infections are TREATABLE. The symptoms are MANAGEABLE. Transmission of the virus can be MITIGATED. Public health risks can be REDUCED.

Treatment, management, mitigation, and risk reduction. Those are the objectives.
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone it will circle the planet just like regular flu. It will appear, disappear then appear again after this pandemic is over. There will be a shot available eventually to prevent it. It will work sometimes, won’t work at other times. It will mutate, they will make stronger shots for it,then the whole thing repeats. I don’t need to be an expert to know that. There are many examples
@Bagalamaga Right now, the virus is brand new. So no one has any antibody immunity to it. Thus it will sweep through the population rapidly overwhelming hospital and healthcare resources.

The whole point of the mitigation effort is to SLOW DOWN transmission so that populations don't contract the virus and become sick at a rate that outpaces the healthcare infrastructure.

It is a PROVEN strategy. None of what is being recommended is made up. There are hard data to support EVERYTHING public health officials have recommended. Each and every infectious disease outbreak anywhere on the globe teaches epidemiologists new lessons.

Non scientists don't seem to believe what the scientists are saying because they have not seen the volumes of data collected and studied by learned experts, worldwide. There are epidemiologists and infectious disease physicians who have spent all of their adult lives studying and perfecting response strategies to these outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics.

Do you have a degree in a science? I suspect you don't which is fine but nonscientists really have little appreciation for what scientists do and their expertise gained from years and decades of tedious research, experimentation and experience. They really do know what they are talking about and doing.
