Got to give it to Putin! He has his air force push the envelope. But I look at these Bear Bombers. Having worked with USAF B-52s, I'd rather have an 8 engine jet system moto gatin' me along in the sky. Got props...not so great (IMO) And those fighters? A well placed missile will put the Bear to sleep permanently.

@soar2newhighs Yes I respect the Russian air crew for flying long distance in bad weather in these flying museums. Apparently the vibration from the engines makes the aircrew sick and under high revs the aircrafts radar doesnt functionnormally. They’ve had not of the investment the B52s have enjoyed.
@WintaTheAngle The B-52 aka BUFF (BIG UGLY FLYING FUCKER) as it was and still is known, has been around for many years, and though the fleet is not what it was back under Curtis le May, they are a lethal flying machine to be given a wide berth. And BTW the Russians are in a fit over what the Administration is doing militarily, including the military assistance to Ukraine: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/russia-says-new-us-weapon-threatens-nuclear-war/ar-BB10QIWI?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=mailsignout

@soar2newhighs They still do their job very well. I’m not sure I’d want to go to war in one but they get results. I wish we had your financial punch and could have kept our Vulcans, not as heavy but a very versatile, but sadly not.
@WintaTheAngle Got to see one (Vulcan) while in South Dakota...awesome to watch taking off!
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@soar2newhighs Yes. If it’s a proper Vulcan take off, it’s a sight you never forget. I love the smell as well. I saw a practice scramble of three and after the noise faded there was that sweet aviation fuel smell.
@WintaTheAngle Have you ever seen a B-52/KC-135 MITO? Go yo youtube and type in MITO.
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@soar2newhighs Yes I have. I bet that left everyone’s teeth rattling for miles around!!
@WintaTheAngle I worked crash/rescue, and rest assured, everyone in the rig on "line standby" gave a sigh of relief after the last bird was airborne!

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYOgsgnZ8dw]@soar2newhighs Yes I bet. This is a link to a shakey video of both a B52 and Vulcan on take off. The footage isn’t great but the sound of the “Vulcan roar” was always popular at airshows.
@WintaTheAngle Thanks. You current or ex military?
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@soar2newhighs My Dad was RAF. I threw an epic tantrum when it turned out I couldn’t be an engineer in the RAF like Dad and didn’t join up. Big mistake. But I lived on airfields for the first half of my life and it’s given me a healthy respect for both men and machinery of airforces the world over.

@soar2newhighs Nothing wrong with turbo-props. I would guess these aircraft are intended to cruise relatively slowly.
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@ArishMell Sure the worked fine on the Shackleton, and they might have even bean fine on Bears when they were new.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@WintaTheAngle Sorry, I'm not sure what you are getting at. Anything works fine when it's new, or looked after properly, whether built this year or 20 years ago. I expect the Bear uses gas-turbine driven propellers, rather then jet engines, for a definite reason!
