Why overseas interests are allowed to by our farming land and then send the food that's grown there back to their country where we in some cases buy it back at a higher price.

@SW-User yikes.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti Somehow i couldn't imagine this being allowed in the US.

@SW-User Chicken growers are allowed to have chickens slaughtered &frozen and then shipped to China to be processed and shipped back to the USA to be sold or served in restaurants. And they don’t have to label the chicken as being processed in China. I don’t buy processed chicken because of this.

@cherokeepatti this is really interesting.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SkeetSkeet Well it’s not like we can’t process it here. The companies do it are greedy, they have to pay for shipping costs 2 ways, frozen shipping at that. They could hire people here to do the same thing & not be so damn greedy about it and still sell it for a reasonable price.

@cherokeepatti Yes we have a lot of things that are sent to china for processing then sent back, as it's cheaper their with their labour. I believe a lot of the smart phones we use like iPhones etc are manufactured there because the labour costs are so low and there's no work place safety overheads etc.

@SW-User we get linens and clothing sipped here from Asia that includes bed bugs!!!!
SW-User
@cherokeepatti Wow so they actually arrive with bugs? 😬
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User They are enclosed in clear plastic zippered bags, sealed up inside. It may take months to get them shipped to this country, and then they go into a warehouse until a store sells them. There is no way they come from inside the USA and they said on the tv show The Doctors that they can live for a year without having a host to feed off of. So yes they come inside the linens or clothing. The departments stores all over the USA have been fighting these bugs having to treat the stores. I don’t know now if they heat-treat their merchandise or not. But you have to launder everything you buy before hanging it in a closet or use it otherwise you are taking a huge risk. The factories are crawling with these bedbugs. This is the price of outsourcing labor and goods.

@cherokeepatti This is amazing, so now i wonder where our products come from and if we have the same issue.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User It is an epidemic in some places. They had to close down the library to treat it a few years ago, a city hall had to be shut down & treated in another city, schools, university dorms, apartment complexes & other public places not to mention homes. It is labor intensive and expensive to do.
