Mental illness and religion.

Is it time society viewed religious beliefs as a mental illness?
How would society benefit if it couldn't control billions of people with this nonsensical belief?

Religion has its uses. While I don't particularly like it, I believe it keeps a lot of society in check, and I don't think it would be good to label it as a mental illness and discourage belief in it.
