How old is the place you'd regard as your home town?

The remote village I spent my first eleven years in, apparently was mentioned in a document dating from 1202 !

There are signs Bronze Age settlement in the area and it was important as a trading centre for both the Romans and Vikings. 馃檪

@Dlrannie The Romans had the sense not to stay long in Ireland. Named it Hibernia (Winter Land), and got back to Italy. Perhaps they'd been watching Game of Thrones.

@alan20 @Dlrannie Ireland's civilisation was not crushed by romans
Dlrannie31-35, F
@Yulianna Lol - not quite sure what the Romans in Ireland has to do with Cambridge in England 馃槀馃槀
alan20M
@Yulianna That's very true!. They never conquered Ireland; only England!
TJNewtonM
@alan20 They gave us roads brothels sanitation and central heating other than that we have nothing to be thankful for from the romans
Yulianna22-25, F

@Dlrannie I'll actually be in Cambridge a fortnight from now for a short break. Might even pop over to Colchester to check up on the legions.

@alan20 When you go avoid the carrot fields there is a monster there that will surely bite your ears off
alan20M
@TJNewton Haven't encountered him on my previous dozen visits so hopefully my luck will hold. I'll be careful on that walk alongside the Cam to Grantchester though. There's a tearoom there that used to attract the likes of Virginia Wolff so there must be something sinister. Are you sure its the ears he bites off?
TJNewtonM
@alan20 Yes definitely the ears
alan20M
@TJNewton But I'll not be able to hear my music. A spot of bargaining called for.
