If you seriously want to take a advice for your real life issues. I think you should explain the scenario very well. A story might be a better option, and for a sincere advice it would require a separate communication thread if they really want to understand the circumstances and give a sensible advice.
I used it through PM with the person/friend on EP which I found a sensible and competent to give a right advice. And it helped me in taking decision.

I've given very serious advice in here when asked. I can't remember if I asked for serious advice.

@quitwhendone I don't ask for serious advice here either, but I think there are those who do.

@Tomorrow Well, the advice I gave was good. Recently someone asked for advice/information and I went into great detail in an over several days. In fact, I'm still advising them on the subject.

@quitwhendone That's good. People sometimes don't know where to turn.

The simple answer is certainly no. Its possible that one asks a question, hoping to get the answer one wants; maybe to find a like-minded person. It would be nice to get an answer like "Do you know, I feel exactly the same way!". There's an invite! Sometimes the act of articulating it, helps one's thinking to evolve.

I don’t remember asking a question seeking advice. I can see how asking anonymously might be an advantage if you wanted an unbiased opinion. Our friends, family and loved ones often know us well enough to tell us what we want to hear.
However, I’ve read questions and answers and either tweaked my perspective or gained understanding and I have found a fresh perspective by speaking privately.

@trackman11 I can see where a PM would be better for discussing private matters. But I 0pdo see some asking serious questions on the Q/A. I don't ask for advice here but there are some who do.

i offer options to some people, it is up to them if they want my information
SW-User
Nope. If I need some serious advice about something, I just go to one of my best friends or loved ones offline.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@SW-User I do the same. I am simply curious.
SW-User
Yes. You. I took your advice to stop drinking alcohol
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@SW-User Good. 😊 I'm glad I could help.
plungesponge · 41-45, M
Not really lol
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@plungesponge Me either. Lol.

@Tomorrow The only thing that comes to mind as useful info I got out of EP way back in the day was how to open stuck jar lids by tapping it on a table. lol
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@plungesponge Well that is something. I tap on those with a butter knife handle. Lol.
TwinkleDink · M
No. I do not seek advice here.
Tomorrow · 56-60, F
@TwinkleDink Nor me. But with some of the questions I read, I think some do.
Barebum61 · 61-69, M
