The ex and I had been in a small bar in a gorgeous old Brownstone in Boston. It was his birthday, and we were out for a night on the town. I can't even describe the ceiling in this place...it was painted with cherubs and gold, and it was an amazing French Renaissance reproduction. There were marble floors, and the stairs were white marble leading up from the street.
We were walking out, and the ex pointed up JUST as I was stepping onto the marble stairs leading to the street, and he said, "Look!" And like an idiot I looked and kept walking...onto open air above the stairs.
I fell and broke my elbow. I had not yet learned that the ex was absolutely not my good pal.
