Any advice for insomnia?

I haven't slept in days. I'm exhausted.

Drinking alcohol can interfere with your sleep patterns for up to three days. Don't drink alcohol. You should never have any caffeinated beverages after noon, and while you are suffering from insomnia you should eliminate them altogether. Same thing with sugar, drugs like cocaine, and chocolate.

If you are taking decongestants or cold medication with decongestants, discontinue that immediately. Some people are very sensitive to an ingredient in decongestants. As a substitute, buy horseradish root, grate it, and sniff the concentrated fumes of the grated root inside your closed fist...OR buy Vicks Vapo Rub and put a tiny bit on your nostrils. OR try putting a little Sriracha sauce on your tongue. You can also use a humidifier next to your bed if you are congested.

If you are taking any medications, look up the side effects of each one online, and contact your doctor if you find that sleeplessness is a side effect.

Do NOT allow any light...at all...in your bedroom. No television, no nightlights...nothing. Wear a sleeping mask if necessary. The body uses melatonin to sleep, and one moment of exposure to light destroys all the melatonin your body has produced.

Buy melatonin sleep aids. They are the mildest. If possible, buy an over the counter antihistamine in tablet form, and take half a tablet before trying to go to sleep.
@4meAndyou I don't drink a lot of caffeine, or alcohol. I'm not congested. I've tried melatonin. I can fall asleep, I can't STAY asleep.

@Gypsy11 Have you talked to your doctor about it? Because they have timed release sleep aids.
@4meAndyou that's my next step.
