I enjoy a good, proper debate.. but those are rare on here. .most people just get pissed off if someone disagrees and then they start hurling insults.. which really just shuts down any debate.. I enjoy the intellectual stimulation of a good debate.

@Adaydreambeliever That sounds a lot like what the left do constantly. So I know just how you feel. All it takes is some simple logic and they go to water. The most entertaining part is that their insults are very lame.
I am talking about the type where they accuse you of not having an education type stuff too.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
@Machete hmm see once we start labelling the other party/parties we demonstrate that we aren't interested in engaging in debate.

@Adaydreambeliever If there is to be a debate than their has to be differing views other wise it is called being in agreement.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
@Machete Ahh indeed but see there's a difference between disagreeing and engaging in civilised debate and name calling, which labelling is.. For instance many call people leftist, which is intended not as a descriptor, but as an insult - used to dismiss them. They aren't even interested in discussing leftism, just use the term to dismiss.. Which isn't debate.. all the more so when, as if often the case, they bandy the term Left/lefty/leftist about even when the other person ISN'T leftist.. so it's clearly being used to label and insult, rather than discuss and debate. It's trying to shut down the argument..

@Adaydreambeliever Or maybe you read way to much into it.
If some one calls me a righty they would be correct. How could I take that as an insult?
Piper · 61-69, F
@Machete I've had that same experience with countless people on "the right". Them getting personally insulting over a simple disagreement, I mean. Just sayin'....
Machete · 56-60, M
@Piper Well see I couldn't exactly use that analogy could I?
But did you feel the need to make the comparison for a reason like to initiate a conflict of some kind? Or were you being defensive?
Piper · 61-69, F
@Machete No, not being defensive or trying to initiate a conflict. I know many left-leaning folks also resort to insults. Just stating a fact, due to your response to someone who did not bring up any political 'side'.
Machete · 56-60, M
@Piper No she didn't on this question but I did see her on another one where it was evident. Also she wasn't attempting to engage in friendly debate either on that one either.
But in any case, sides are always chosen in any disagreement under what ever name you call it. I just simply wasn't attempting to shroud my view on what side I was standing.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Machete Okay. This whole exchange got off the actual subject of the question posed in the post, seems like. My fault and yours, for bringing up a political 'side'.
