1. Respect yourself. The value you put on yourself is the value others have to rise to. People recognise it. And it helps you live up to it. Low self-esteem leads to compensatory behaviour.
2. Live by your values. If you are ambiguous here, you'll miss it. Chasing happiness is like chasing a kite. Chase meaningful things with your life and the kite will follow you.
3. Reflect. On life, on events. Extract the meaning from life. Create ways to find this space regularly. Otherwise life is a series of random events. "The unexamined life is not worth living," Socrates defence.
4. Take responsibility for your own actions. Stop defending yourself by attacking or hiding or other ugly things. Be prepared to say, I'm wrong. It doesn't really hurt. It actually heals.
5. Don't be ruled by anything such as fear, lack of self-control, substances, addictions, mind or emotions. How can you live well when you're not in control?
6. Connect with others. Community. Don't sit it out.
7. Maintain optimism. Cynicism is a failure to constructively engage with the world as it is. We can do better than that.
8. Do meaningful things. What are they? See #2.
9. Love as a verb, always.

I'd call this spirituality, for an atheist or otherwise.
