A few misconceptions about Atheism

Writing this because I made a friend her early and lost him in less than 20 minutes as he went full out ballistic on me, making up ridiculous claims of being in the upper echelon of A Christian hierarchy. A direct voice for God. etc. Frustrating to try and have a friendly dialogue.

Atheist myths: Atheists are thus devil worshippers. Absurd. We don't believe in God thus neither a fallen angel, demons .etc

We have guidelines to follow for new converts. Not true, there is no structured rules or belief system required to follow. Each member forms his own brand of Atheism or debates with others then objectively decides independantly.

Atheist just haven't read the bible thus unable to form a relation to God. Truth is most all other Athiest once completely accepted the bibles teachings many like myself were baptised, even I taught bible study and know scripture sometimes better than Preachers or other God enlightened church leaders.

There is never an attempt to convert Christians to Atheism. We believe in free will. Most of us have come to our personal acceptance of Atheism by some kind of spiritual epiphany, that we need to revaluate our belief system.

We have no comprehensive list of what you call sins. Most of us believe in the Golden Rule and that it is WRONG to impose our beliefs on others without their stated, informed. Adult consent.

We try to respect other religious choices.

AND above all. The USA is NOT a Christian Nation as so many are saying. Our forefathers made ensurances that this nation is purely secular and that the Government must not attempt a state religion.

Being an Atheist does not need a bible to establish moral values. Civilizations for centuries determind moral values whic are already most hardwired into our brains

Thanks for those who took the time to peruse this. Basically we just want to be left alone and like you, attempt to teach our childrem (without) clerical intervation the most
humane and diverse people promoting Agape love, Tolerance, and appitite for finding their own way in an era of so much hatred and intolerance.

Thanks, David.

I've called myself over my lifetime a Christian, an atheist, a militant agnostic (but no one got that gag) and just non-believer.

One of the most interesting discussion I had was with a very Christian lady a Northern Irish Catholic as it happens. We were discussing humanism and existentialism. She expressed real concern if people didn't believe they would be judged by God at the end of their lifetime that they wouldn't lead a life of sin and excess.

I explained my position for most of my life is that I don't believe in some power that will judge me at my life's end and decide heaven or hell. I don't personally believe in an afterlife like that or in the concepts of heaven & hell.

She was really puzzled and said "But if you don't have that why do you not just live a totally hedonistic lifestyle?"

I smiled and said "I choose to live a moral life as I believe it benefits me and my society. I don't need a God to force me to live that moral life. Unlike you. I wonder what you'll be like if you ever lost your faith."

She admitted she only "behaved" due to the hell threat. I thought that an awful way to be.
@SW-User Same question as I got. Since we started out millions of years before Jehovah determined whats naughty and nice. Tribes had to stablish basic moral guidelines for the people, tribes shared stories, hunted and lived a tolerable life.
(Cave paintings proved a love of art, and scenes of daily life.) They created pottery)

Hardly the lifestyle of irrational, mindless savages. Flash forward many thousands of years and god decides there needs to be rules, and oh my, what rules they were, constant smiting of entire towns. Random genocide, guideline for slaves, no shellfish, orders to stone folks working on Sunday etc.

NO! it was Priest and merchants who actually made these laws to suit themselves.
An all loving god who would have a man (nearly) to sacrifice his son as a show of loyality? a little hard to swallow. But the Priest/Merchants needed to keep the ordinary meek and in constant fear of the wraith of god.

Man without religion would have a moral compass by his common sense and need to remain at peace with the other tribes.

Morality would have evolved naturally same as it keeps evolving and changes today.
