How would you explain what SW is to someone who has never heard of it ?

My explanation would first begin with radio waves followed by FM,MW,LW and then SW.

@EugenieLaBorgia I used to have a SW radio so I understand that :)
@Nimbus 73, then!
@Nimbus I still have a shortwave radio.Amazingly there are still stations broadcasting there.
@TheSirfurryanimalWales The British army, during the second world war, used to use a transmitter/receiver called a '19 set' in their tanks. My friend still has one of these which be bought, long ago, for three pounds. Using the original 15 feet whip aerial, he could transmit and receive from his home in England to Australia. He told me that each time he transmitted, it would block out the pictures and sound of those who were using black & white television sets for a distance of about an eighth of a mile.
@EugenieLaBorgia that sort of information fascinates me.I miss the mysterious number stations
@TheSirfurryanimalWales Apparently, in those days, operating without a license was manged by the GPO who would triangulate the position with their detector vans, storm your house and confiscate all of your equipment!
@TheSirfurryanimalWales This is it!!
