Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes. I believe there is often residual energy imprinted into the very fabric of some homes, trees, woods, the earth, and even stone, from people who have died violent or very traumatic deaths. I also think the same energy can come from living people who project their own strong emotions in the same way. I think that the projection of strong emotions as a type of energy is something we haven't documented. And I believe that energy can leave a print or echo on the world around us, just as our feet can leave marks in the mud.

I don't think that visible sorts of prints or echoes often happen. And I also don't think everyone is capable of seeing or hearing that sort of energy. I have often wondered if the people who can hear or see these sorts of phenomenon have been badly traumatized themselves, and if that sets up a sort of antenna in one's mind that can sense odd energies.

I have also wondered if the people who can see or hear these energies are slightly mad...or quite, quite mad. Or whether it's something genetic. But that's a debate for another time.

That being said, I did once live in a house where some odd phenomenon occurred. My brother owned the house, but was living in his 2nd house, and he allowed me to live in his first house. He told me the previous owner, an elderly lady, had died in the house.

A glass of water moved away from me on the kitchen countertop. It was on a 4 x 4 inch tiled surface, so it could not have moved through surface tension past those grout lines. It moved about 6 or 7 inches JUST as I reached for it.

In that same house, my lamp first refused to turn on, and then lit briefly, but then refused to light again. I checked the plug and it was not plugged in. At all. The lamp should not have lit...but it did.

In that house the toilet ran constantly. That seems almost funny, at first. I would jiggle the handle, it would stop, and then I would walk into the living room. Each time, at the exact MOMENT I sat down, the toilet would begin running again.

I had a plumber in...and he replaced every bit of the toilet hardware. The toilet still ran in exactly the same way, so I had him back in, and he checked and rechecked all of his work, and everything worked just fine. I even tested it...went and sat down in the living room. Nothing. No running toilet. Until he left.

The electric in the house was vintage 1930's. In the upstairs you actually had to push buttons into the wall to turn on the lights, and they would never work for me. When my brother arrived, and I told him the lights weren't working, he went upstairs, pushed the buttons, and the lights worked just fine.

Now, I explained all of that away to myself as normal things with some kind of explanation, until the night of March 5th. I woke up at 2:05 a.m. and I couldn't figure out what had woken me up. I always sleep with ear plugs because every little noise wakes me.

I sat up very slightly, propped up on an elbow, removed my ear plugs, and listened. Coming from the bathroom, about 10 feet down the hall, there was a moaning noise. It sounded like a woman being very, very ill. It went on for almost 20 minutes...and then it just stopped. I always wondered, later, if the old lady who died in the house was violently ill and died while being very, very sick...in the bathroom...on March 5th at 2:05 a.m.
