Dear British People,

enough is enough.
Really. Stop making an ass of yourselves. You are nice and kind and lovely people, do you really want to become the laughing stock of the civilized world?
"The people have spoken", haha. Just accept the fact that Brexit was/is/will always be a textbook example of a crackpot idea that leads nowhere but down.
Now get rid of the Demonic Possession and come back home please. We Europeans aren't perfect either, and we will happily accept your sincere apologies. Just send us a bottle of Isle of Skye whisky and an annual subscription to the Royal Shakespeare Company, and we will be fine. See you in Paris/Berlin/Rome next summer, let's get drunk [and I mean drunk!], and let's have a good laugh together, about this present madness. 🌷

Yours cordially,
helenS.

[Note added: this post is no longer relevant. The majority of British people have now decided, at their peril, to harm their own interests, and "get Brexit done". So be it. Go find more trustworthy friends. Mr. Trump is waiting for you. 😕]

Has the NHS had its 350 million this week? 🤔 🤷‍♀️
Moonpenny · F
@Harriet03 More than deserves it.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@Moonpenny It was promised, remember that bus?!!
Moonpenny · F
@Harriet03 I was abroad at the time so don't remember it but I watched Nigel Farage on GMB on 24th June '16, deny that the NHS had been promised the amount of money promised. RAT of the first order 🤮
SW-User
@Harriet03 we're still paying into the EU at the same amount as we were last month. We agreed to pay throughout the transition period
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@SW-User Of course, so it's going to start next January! 🤦‍♀️
SW-User
@Harriet03 at the earliest that's when we'll stop making EU contributions.

BTW it was never £350 million go look at the government own information with the rebate most it was was £280 million but you're ignoring the direct grants back. Net it was at worst £120 million.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@SW-User Go look at the bus?!
SW-User
@Harriet03 I looked at the bus. I think the technical term is "a lie".
SW-User
@Harriet03 re did my research using latest ons figures I could find.

Taking highest contribution figure (after rebate) of £15.5billion a year that's £298million a week
Platinum · M
@Harriet03 the nhs has been given billions and we have still not fully left yet and so we don't need to pay them anything yet....and it was fund the nhs not give them every penny.....
Platinum · M
@SW-User how can something be a lie if it has not happened yet ...we are still paying the eu...plus the nhs has been given billions...
Platinum · M
@SW-User your 120million only comes to just over 6 billion a year and after rebates we pay around 8 billion
SW-User
@Platinum I was doing if from memory

https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/governmentpublicsectorandtaxes/publicsectorfinance/articles/theukcontributiontotheeubudget/2017-10-31

Using figures from EU pink book they have European Commission figures, five-year average, 2014 to 2018 gives annual net contributions as £7.8 billion annual which is £150 million a month.
That includes a figure of £5.6 billion in EU grants back. The government only show grants back to central government this includes grants back to public and private sector funding.
SW-User
@Platinum @Platinum the lie is it was never ever £350 million due to the rebate. It said we give the EU £350 million a week. We never ever have. That's a lie in my definition.
Platinum · M
We do give them around 350 million before any rebates and as the payments change every year....to put an accurate amount on the side of the bus, would be impossible and after the lies told by remain, like ...ww3, house price crash, mass unemployment, recession and everyone £4300 worse off.....bringing up the bus for nearly four years is very petty....@SW-User
SW-User
@Platinum I keep asking show me verified evidence of £350 million.

BTW the remain campaign, of which I was not a member, was an appallingly bad campaign. But one lie does not excuse another.

The Fountainbleu abatement has never required the UK to pay first. It is a discount implemented prior to payment. We have never paid £350 million a week.

Show me similar evidence to that I've shown you to disprove me position and I'll gladly accept it.

My evidence is from ONS using UK government and EU verified data.

It was not a lie, they are giving the nhs billions...the only lies were from remain and they were whoppers,....@fairefoutre
Platinum · M
@SW-User the money pay them each year varies, and 350 million is around 18+ billion and that is probably an average amount...no one said it was an exact amount ...and it said " fund " which is different to saying we are giving you all the money we pay them....you have a weak understanding of what was meant...plus they are giving the nhs billions, so your idea of a lie comes from la la land
SW-User
@Platinum I'm sorry but as an evidence and data led person I ask you again to show verifiable data to back up the £350 million figure. Yes the figure varies but it hasn't gone down in my knowledge. Max paid in 2018 was £298 million, see my previous cited reference. https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/governmentpublicsectorandtaxes/publicsectorfinance/articles/theukcontributiontotheeubudget/2017-10-31

Here's the bus

The NHS comment is not a promise; clearly cleverly worded. As you say the last administration increased NHS funding by billions but, it's a big but, that cannot be the EU money as we're still paying that and will until 31 Dec 2020. As @Harriet03 asked at the top of this thread "Has the NHS had its £350 million?" the answer has to be no.

The bus does say "We send the EU £350 million a week."

I can't see how anyone can say that is factually correct as all figures show the abatement means we've never sent that amount.
Platinum · M
Yes it says we send the eu 350 million a week...it don't say we send them that amount every week...and they never paid them weekly...the figure we do send them before any rebates which are not guarantees , is around 18-19 billion and that is around 350 million...but as we are still in the eu and paying them and it cannot be a lie....you never mention the remain lies, wonder why, considering they were gigantic......if you want to believe it's a lie and that makes you happy , I won't lose any sleep..@SW-User
SW-User
@Platinum did you read https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/governmentpublicsectorandtaxes/publicsectorfinance/articles/theukcontributiontotheeubudget/2017-10-31
In 2018 the UK’s gross contribution to the EU amounted to £20.0 billion; however, this amount of money was never actually transferred to the EU. It is best thought of as a theoretical liability.

This is because before the UK government transfers any money to the EU, the adjustment (or abatement) is applied.

In 2018 the UK abatement was £4.5 billion. This means £15.5 billion was transferred from the UK government to the EU in official payments.
£15.5 billion divide by 52 weeks in the year is approximately £289 million a week. That ain't £350 million.

That's my only point. It was a lie.
Platinum · M
We don't pay them 15.5 billion@SW-User
SW-User
@Platinum you may be right
In 2018 the UK made an estimated gross contribution (after the rebate) of £13.2 billion. The UK received £4.3 billion of public sector receipts from the EU, so the UK’s net public sector contribution to the EU was an estimated £8.9 billion.
Platinum · M
@SW-User where ever you look, the figures are different.....I'm talking the figure before the rebate which in 2018 was 20 billion, but then 4.5 billion was the rebate leaving 15.5 billion, but then the eu paid back another 2.5 billion, so to get accurate amounts is impossible......we will never agree on it being a lie..so we should agree to disagree....thanks for chat...
