Have You Ever Walked Into A Grocery Store And Bought Something You Thought Was The Meat Of An Animal... And It Wasn't?

The very powerful meat industry, has done and are attempting to pass laws forbidding the use of labels/words like "veggie burger" or "vegan hot dog" on plant-based products. They SAY that it is confusing or "deceptive" to consumers, even though every plant-based "meat" product has meatless plain as day somewhere on the front of the packaging.

I don't find it confusing at all.

Besides, historically, the word "meat" did not always refer to animals. We still talk about "sweat meats".

Edit: ok, ok.....SWEET meats!!! 😂
@DrWatson I guess I didn’t understand the term. I thought “meat sweats” was the theory of people perspiring heavily after consuming lots of meat. 🍖🥩

@bijouxbroussard You got me! 😂 (I edited it, but not in a way that makes your comment pointless!)
@DrWatson Ah, and I thought I’d gotten it wrong. “Sweet meats“ is a whole different “animal” (figuratively speaking). 😁

@bijouxbroussard I had never heard of "meat sweats", but the food that has made me sweat the most has not been meat, it has been hot peppers!
@DrWatson It’s a relatively new term, mostly used by newly converted vegans and vegetarians.

@bijouxbroussard Yes, I figured as much. I cannot imagine my deer-hunting son-in-law using the term!

@DrWatson That is surely true. :)

Meat is often used to describe many things, aside from the parts of an animal. Same with "milk". Since these plant-based products all have "meat-less" on the labeling anyway, I do think these actions by the "animal meat" and dairy producers are quite unreasonable.

@Piper The milk industry wants to restrict the use of the word "milk" too. I look forward to seeing "Soy Moo Juice" on the shelves!

@DrWatson I know. That started long before the recent sweats displayed by the animal meat industry. I'm not sure "Moo Juice" would be approved of. Cows DO sort of moo, after all. 🐄

@Piper I know....it would be a sneaky end run around their copyright! I bet no one is trying to control the use of the term moo juice, and this would throw it back in their corporate face!

@DrWatson That might be amusing.
