Did anyone ever make an astonishingly important discovery, without being aware of it, only to find out later that someone else claimed it?

Like 8 years ago in 2011, I created something. Another person in the team parked it saying it’s not important and 2 years later in 2013 I found out that he submitted the work and claimed it to be his and got some reward. It was a big piece of work and affected things in very nice way. I reported the management about it, but were as corrupted as the guy. I left the job for another.

It was more of an invention than discovery.
