How come every generational struggle is the same?

The older ones complain the younger ones are the worst generation yet! They miss the good old days when they were better in every way. Younger generations disregard the old as behind the times and backwards. As if they've outgrown the pitiful generations that came before. Either way the result is their own generation is superior. The cycle repeats over and over. But why? Are humans just naturally self centered?

I disagree. I showed my kids respect as they grew and earned it by sacrificing for them. We never had a generation gap or a rebellion as such. Sure they made mistakes and so did I. But when the chips fell, I was there to pick them up and they always knew it.
You are however correct. Parenting has to be selfless, or dont bother. You will FUBAR your kids otherwise.
