Unaffectionate, Mean, Smothering.
Sorry this has been your experience. Was she like that to everybody or mainly you? @4meAndyou

@LukeTheDuke You have to understand people in order to forgive them.

She was not able to express affection with anyone, except maybe with my father. She did not like to be touched, and her entire birth family was like that...no hugging, no kissing. When I was 11 years old she told me I was too old for goodnight kisses.

She fawned over the men in our family and became almost slavish toward them, whereas she considered me a second servant to the men and expected me to feel or be the same way.

She was a substitute school teacher, but she was very stern and mean to the kids she taught. They used to give her the worst classes because she was the only one who could control them, and when she came home she was so stressed out she would just snap and slap me for even speaking, or chase me to try to hit me.

She lost a child in between my brother and myself, and she became a weird combination of ten times more smothering than normal mothers when it came to going out or having fun, but extremely neglectful when it came to watching whether I was still outside playing in the yard. (I wasn't).

She also seemed to become jealous and competitive with me later on as I grew older. She tried to make me feel ugly and inadequate in appearance, but I believe now that it was because she felt she was ugly and inadequate. Neither of us were.
Well you’ve certainly analysed things well, which shows your reflectiveness and empathy. I’m sorry you had such a tough upbringing, but it seems like you have developed into a good human being through your own strength and work. God bless you. @4meAndyou
