I know this is gonna sound stupid...

I think I might have bipolar type 2 but I see a nurse practitioner and was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. How can I tell her I think I might be bipolar?

Request a test for bipolar disorder. It may be some work to get to the point where you can get a proper review of your diagnosis but what you have to do is simple.

You know your health better than anyone else, even if they claim they know best. You need one thing - push for it and push every medical professional you deal with.

Just do, it wouldn't hurt sharing your own conclusion. In fact it's better than taking years to find the right diagnosis.

You can also see someone else.

tell her how you feel about the diagnosis, that it might be wrong so she can help you clear it out

Have you considered asking he if you can be tested for that.
fluteacorn · 22-25, F
@whowasthatmaskedman I have but I'm afraid I'll sound like an idiot.

@fluteacorn While it could be all she has to hear is the "Bipolar" word to have a lightbulb moment, even if it isnt so, its worth persisting and ask "Because you are concerned and wish to eliminate it".. Its your money. Get the best value. Even if you are wrong, its bugging you. Thats enough to act on.

Demonstrate the symptoms of a manic episode.
fluteacorn · 22-25, F
@PromiseMeEverything It is actually really common for people with bipolar 2 to be misdiagnosed with MDD for years before an accurate diagnosis. I have had signs of hypomania in the last 2 or so weeks.

@fluteacorn I know all about it, document your symptoms. Tell your doctor.
fluteacorn · 22-25, F
@PromiseMeEverything I have been keeping track mentally but I can't even stay still long enough to keep track of stuff on paper

@MalteseFalconPunch I know what all my (original) diagnoses are. Being 18, I don't need to let my parents even look at the papers.
