This doesn't really make sense to me. It seems to me that if you really love someone, you'll try your best to understand them. And I think that the better you understand someone, the more deeply you can love them.
If you only love someone (or think you love someone) when you don't really understand them, then you don't really love them, you just love an idealized image of them that your mind has created. So I would have to say that I strongly disagree with this statement.
