How does one ask family to see if they’d be willing to donate a kidney to another family member?

I mean everyone already knows the persons kidney has failed. His condition is getting progressively worse and not many know that but know he’s on dialysis and looks like he’s getting worse with time.

So how does one ask? If they already know if they wanted to they’d have offered right?

I never actually had to ask. As soon as a doctor diagnosed me with kidney failure and said I needed a transplant, my sister volunteered immediately.
