Does the abortion debate infuse religion into government which are supposed to be separate?

Or is it the other way around.

I don’t think religion comes into it, but morality, or ethics, do. Many people have, personally, a strong opinion about abortion, one way or another. Governments and parliaments have to try and find some way of legislating and regulating matters which respects both points of view, and which is not impracticable. They may come down broadly on one side or the other, but they can’t ignore the opposition.
