Do you think old rich men have the right to dictate what a women does to her body?

This includes religious groups too.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
Well no I don't think it's ok for ANY man, rich or not, old or not - to tell a woman what to do with her body.. It happens, and religion is often implicated..
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I dont care what age, gender or economic state they are in, I believe in elections and voting out those you disagree with.
@FreeSpirit1 Of course, unfortunately, too often a majority is wrong but that's the way the system works. I just hate seeing something women fought for, for so long end-up threatned and possibly reversed.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
They shouldn’t, but apparently in this country they do
Why is it always old rich white guys that do this kind of shit
@SAWYERandPYE The mindset is toxic.

@FreeSpirit1 I meant it in general. Not just Alabama. If we were talking about Alabama then you would've slayed me. Hat off to you my good woman.
@FreeSpirit1 Yes of course. I was making a general observation, most of the most important offices in the southern states have been rich old men.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@RedtheEmerald, because it will never affect them personally (unless their daughter gets knocked up and they can quietly slink her off to a plushy place out of state).
It is certainly not my business to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her or her baby's body. that's between her and God.
@YourMomsSecretCrush That's something great to hear coming from a religious man. Thanks!
chrisCA · M
If men could get pregnant, or even have a period, it would be a whole different story. 😏
@chrisCA A bit more empathy you think? LOL😛...I've accused some men of being on the rag though. (shame on me)
Oh hell no!! No one tells me what to do with my body.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
Do you believe that women's groups should have the right to impede or protest male contraceptives?

Do you think that if women's bodies are their own business they should fund their own health care and not consume 75% of what is paid for by men and women?
@HazPassportForYourGalaxy I appreciate your playing devils advocate, it makes people have to think.
@SAWYERandPYE Thank you I appreciate the courteous replies from you and Salix. I just think the issue is more complicated than what is presented as easily digestible and there should be some practice what you preach too.

Way too many women's chat shows gleefully exclaiming men don't need birth control women have control... Also feminist protests of anyone attempting to develop male contraceptives with vocal protests. IE Women feeling entitled to control men's bodies. Same with circumcision to a lesser extent.

So maybe that whole saw cuts both ways and we should pay for what we want control of.
@HazPassportForYourGalaxy Why would women interfere with male contraception ? Do you have any links ?

@SAWYERandPYE, you have a point. I just wonder if these people really think of the big picture with their beliefs. There is no way Alabama will be a better place to live because of the mindset of those in charge.
@Peapod It certainly won't enhance tourist trade. Making abortion illegal sets a legal precedent which can raise it's ugly head in other courts, not to mention, we are already in a precarious position with the divisiveness presently going on with the American people.

It's happened before, but never this bad.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@SAWYERandPYE, it will ultimately hit them hard in the pocketbook for all sorts of reasons. Reasonable people will think twice about living there, college age kids will not want to go to school there, unwanted babies born will likely need social services for the basics, women that have botched abortions will end up in ERs, and the list goes on. Of course we all know that Alabama simply wants this all challenged in the Supreme Court before the likes of Brett Cavanaugh.

I dread the whole thing because going backwards will not save babies and their parents like the anti abortion people are hoping. It is so much more than what happens at conception and most reasonable people understand that.
DunDunDun · 22-25, F
obviously not, but lets stop with all of this, "with her own body" and "old rich men"
Women are against abortion too and it's not just about her body, and this is coming from someone who's actually in support of abortion, I wish other people who aren't for abortion would stop being so dumb

No one has that right

Do you believe that we have the right to do anything to our own body?
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Freedom of everything is chaos
@Muthafukajones Who said "Everything?" of course we need boundaries as a society, I'm talking about our personal right to decide for our own bodies.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
So:

Suicide
Maiming
Conscription
Vaccination
STI Prevention
Quarantine

All optional to you?

I don't even know why being old and rich has anything to do with it
@Jackaloftheazuresand Because of a mindset that led them to believe that men have the right to dictate what a woman can/can't do. Rich old guys, (at least many and especially in the south) have a sense of entitlement.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@SAWYERandPYE If we accept that though, I don't think that's because they are old. maybe the rich part
@Jackaloftheazuresand It's also partly regional, I'm a older man, but luckily took LSD in the sixties and changed my mindset about a lot of things. I actually have more in common with younger folks than my own age.

Not at all. But they’ve been trying to legislate and control women’s bodies from the beginning.
strongbow · 46-50, M
They are elected officials elected by women and men, setting laws we all must follow
Peapod · 61-69, F
@strongbow, I doubt they were elected by a big turnout. I also question those that did elect them understood what sort of legislation they were really going to push through. It's more restrictive than what even most anti-abortion people are comfortable with.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@Peapod Well thats their problem for not doing their homework before electing
